France, the largest country in the European Union, is located in western Europe. It is bordered by Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Spain. France is one the founding members of the United Nations and the European Union. It is the 2nd largest European country by population, with around 65 million people.
Germany is the biggest economy in Europe and also the most populous country in the European Union with around 82 million inhabitants. The country is also one of the most important political powers in the continent and a member of the EU, NATO, G8 and OECD. The country was divided in two for a long during the cold war but reunited again in 1990 with the fall of the Berlin wall. Berlin is the capital and also the largest city in Germany with around 3,5 million people living in the city and 4,5 million people in the metropolitan area.
The Netherlands is a country located in the West Europe. It also includes several small islands in the Caribbean descended from colonialist times. Netherlands has a population of almost 17 million people and the capital city is Amsterdam. The official languages iare Dutch and Frisian, which is spoken in the northern province of Friesland. The Netherlands was one of the first countries to have an elected parliament. Geographically the country is below sea level; with 25% of its area and 21% of the population located lower than sea level.
Throughout history, Spain has had a global empire around the world, although the majority of its colonies were in South America. 500 million people speak Spanish as a native language due to this global occupation, making Spanish the world’s second most spoken first language. Nowadays, Spain is a highly developed country with high living standards as well as the twelfth largest economy in the world and the fifth largest in the European Union.
Italy is located on a peninsula in Southern Europe. From the north, it borders Slovenia, Austria, France and Switzerland. The country has a population of about 60.6 million people which makes it the 5th most populous country in Europe. Nowadays, Italy plays a big role in Europe when it comes to politics, economy and culture as it is one of the biggest countries in the European Union.

Depende mucho de sus socios, ya que 1/3 de su riqueza procede de la exportación. Sus mayores socios son Suecia, Alemania y el Reino Unido, así como el 60% de sus ventas son en la Unión Europea. Usán el euro como moneda.

The population of Hungary is about 10 million with the capital city of Budapest having a population of 1.7 million. Before World War I, Hungary was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, but after the war it lost about 70% of its territory. During the cold war, Hungary was one of the countries under Soviet influence
Iceland is a island located in the northern parts of the Atlantic ocean. The population of the country is only 320,000 people. The capital city is Reykjavik with around 120,000 inhabitants. Iceland is a volcanically and geologically active area characterized by sand fields, mountains, and glaciers. Iceland was inhabited for the first time by Norsemen in AD 874.
Ireland, the third-biggest island in Europe, is located west of Great Britain. The Republic of Ireland actually covers around 85% of the whole island and the rest, Northern Ireland, is part of the United Kingdom. The population of the country is around 4.6 million people. The population of the whole island is around 6.4 million if you count North-Ireland as well.
The republic of Latvia is one of the Baltic countries, in the northeast corner of Europe. The population of the country is about 2 million. In the north, the country is bordered by Estonia, in the east by Russia and Belarus and in the south by Lithuania. The capital city, Riga, is also the biggest city in the Baltic countries with some 700,000 inhabitants.

The population of the country is around 3.5 million while the capital city of Vilnius has some 560,000 inhabitants. Lithuania joined the European Union in 2004 along with 9 other countries.
Luxembourg is a small country in the middle of Belgium, France and Germany. The population is about half a million people and the area is about 2,500 km2. Nowadays, Luxembourg is the worlds only sovereign grand duchy. Luxembourg is member of Benelux-countries, the EU, NATO, OECD and other significant international organizations. The country has three languages: German, French and Luxembourgish.
Poland would be a very interesting country to do an internship in. The country’s economy is considered to be one of the best out of all the post-communist countries in eastern Europe and the economy is currently growing very quickly. The country has a strong domestic market, very little private debt, and a flexible currency. In addition, the banking sector in Poland is the biggest in central and eastern Europe and in 2009 the country’s economy was the fastest growing in the EU.
Portugal was a major power in the 15th and 16th centuries as they expanded their power to oversea colonies, becoming the first global empire in history and also the longest lasting European colonial empire. The empire existed for nearly 600 years until the last colony was lost in 1999.
Romania is between central and southeastern Europe. It borders Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and Moldova to the north and east, Bulgaria to the south and the Black sea to the east. Romania has a population of 19 million people, the seventh largest population in the EU.
Romania is a countries which was under soviet influence after World War II. The country became a socialist republic. In 1989, when the Soviet Union collapsed, Romania began the journey to become a democratic country with a market economy. After two decades, Romania is already an upper middle-income country, part of NATO, the EU and many other international associations.
Slovakia has a population of 5 million people and is located in Central Europe. It borders the countries of Austria, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. The capital city of Bratislava is also the largest city in the country. Slovakia gained its independence as late as 1993, after the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
Slovenia has a population of only 2 million people. It is currently a member of The EU, Eurozone etc. However, the country is an old communist stronghold, like many countries in Eastern Europe. The country is know for its rising economic and social standing.
The economy of Slovenia is small and largely dependent on exports. As a consequence, they are strongly influenced by changes in the world economy. The GDP per inhabitant is 80% of the average GDP of the EU, one of the highest rates out of all the newest EU members. The country is prosperous and stable, with a hardworking and educated workforce. Doing an internship in Slovenia could be an interesting opportunity.
Switzerland is located at the very heart of Europe, bordered by Germany, France, Italy, Austria, and Liechtenstein. The landscape is largely shaped by the Alps, meaning most of the 7.9 million people are live on the Plateau. This is also where the largest cities, Zürich and Geneva, can be found. The capital of Switzerland is still Bern with a population of only 135,000.
United Kingdom consists of the island of Great Britain and Northern Ireland – the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland. The population of the UK is 62.2 million people in total. The kingdom is divided into four different countries, each with their own national administrations: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The capital city of the kingdom is London, with a population of 13.7 million people in the metropolitan area.
